Nationally known, award-winning health and medical journalist, Anne M. Fletcher, is frequently sought out by the media, as well as professional and consumer groups, for her knowledge about behavior change, addiction, and weight management. As a registered dietitian, she holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Cornell University and a Master of Science degree from Drexel University. 

 

 

Fletcher is known for her ability to weave together her inspiring findings from hundreds of real-life success stories with state-of-the art information about health issues. Her book, Sober for Good:  New Solutions for Drinking Problems—Advice From Those Who Have Succeeded  (Houghton Mifflin, April, 2001) made several national bestseller lists and received acclaim in an unprecedented two New York Times columns by Jane Brody and in USA Today.  As part of her 12-city national media tour for Sober for Good, Fletcher appeared on the CBS “Early Show” with Bryant Gumbel, as well as on National Public Radio’s “Talk of the Nation”.

 

Fletcher is the recipient of the Research Society on Alcoholism Journalism Award for Sober for Good.   She is also the winner of the Outstanding Contributions to Advancing the Understanding of Addictions Award from the American Psychological Association’s Division 50. For her career contributions to the lay public’s understanding of cognitive-behavioral approaches, she received the “Distinguished Friend to Behavior Therapy Award” from the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies. Sober for Good also received a National Health Information Award. Fletcher is also the 2006 recipient of the American Dietetic Association’s Media Excellence Award. In clinical settings, she provided cognitive-behavioral counseling to hundreds of clients with weight problems.
